Vibrant Communities Abound in the Heart of Edmonton
The majority of housing options are condos and lofts; this type of living frees up homeowners from the hassle of yard maintenance while still allowing engaging in home ownership. Further out from the downtown core, housing options become more varied and more single family dwellings are in evidence, giving home buyers more housing choices while still maintaining close quarters with the downtown Edmonton area.
Different cities have unique personalities. In modern metropolises like Edmonton, one can sample many distinct flavours of life simply by going for a casual walk. Those who live in the Central area evince a cosmopolitan air that bears witness to international cultures, strong community bonds and an appreciation for convenience.
What Defines Central Edmonton?
Communities like Oliver, Inglewood, Queen Mary Park, Boyle Street and Downtown possess unique characteristics that make them Albertan icons. Even though these regions are decidedly urban, they're no less urbane thanks to their high-rises, stadiums, museums, conference centres and institutions of higher learning.
Whereas some municipalities are marked by vast, tortuous stretches of urban perdition, the edifices here don't utterly dominate the landscape or throw their surroundings into permanent shadow. Instead, they're punctuated by trees, greenery, bike paths and parks that make this city as accessible to pedestrians as it is to motorists.
Why Live Here?
Many of those who live in Edmonton's inner zones prefer upscale environs. Although low- and medium-density residential fixtures like single-family homes aren't too prevalent in the middle of this region, they're the order of the day in the neighbourhoods just beyond the downtown core. There's also a range of great condos, row houses and the typical high-altitude fare that one might assume would exist in such a thriving city. In short, people fall in love with Edmonton for many valid reasons, but the chance to pick and choose one's lifestyle is a reliable constant.
Life-changing Amenities
As green cities go, this is a definitive world leader. Unlike some of its counterparts, however, the verdant vibrancy isn't limited to a few local parks or patches of grass.
In addition to the mature trees that surround most of the homes and complement many of the apartment blocks and offices, there are vast green spaces that make it simple to enjoy a virtual escape from the city without actually trekking into the wilds of Alberta. With the North Saskatchewan River winding its way around neighbourhoods like Rossdale and Riverdale, it's possible to find plenty of real estate that affords its owners waterfront access via the well-maintained parks and natural spaces that line the banks. Ambling footpaths and access alleys offer measured separation and make it easy to enjoy life as it comes.
Choosing a central neighbourhood isn't just a smart idea because the homes look nice. This city backs up its high-return real estate with planned features like some of the nation's oldest community leagues, a robust public transit system, open spaces, shopping and unmatched views. From here, city-dwellers can easily travel to the outskirts, find employment, rub elbows at clubs and sporting matches, or pursue various levels of educational attainment. Not every city in Canada offers naturalistic beauty and convenience in equal measure, but it's effortless to discover healthy doses of both in Edmonton's Central neighbourhoods.
