Many of the boroughs in Edmonton boast decades of community history that laid the foundations for the amenities that modern Albertans still enjoy today. In McKernan, the residential streets wind through what used to be farmland and frontier settlements, but now they're home to an abundance of residential architecture, parks and pathways. Fortunately, the iconic American elms, conifers and other fixtures that once dominated these ex-wetlands remain in force to grant the area a rustic air for all of its modern trappings.

McKernan's Parks, Transit and Collegiate Conveniences
This borough lies just south of the University of Alberta Hospital. Once part of a marsh, it's currently the site of largely residential streets, schools and a small shopping centre whose retail origins go back decades. Thanks to facilities like an LRT station and borders along 114 Street NW and 109 Street NW, this is a well-connected neighbourhood that serves downtown commuters and local families with equal grace.
Diverse Buying Options in a Seat of History
This community affords its residents many perks, but one of the best advantages of living here is that the properties are so distinctive. For instance, Edmonton builders are continually creating modern, flat-faced designs to cater to the increasingly chic crowd that craves the city life, but there are also plenty of single-level, multi-story and other home types with more classic inspirations. Although fenced yards are the standard in some sections, buyers are more likely to encounter stately country hedgerows and similarly naturalistic landscaping elements in others. As far as consumer choice is concerned, this is a fine place to explore one's preferences in style.

We recently had the opportunity to relocate to Edmonton from Halifax. We only had a limited amount of time to find a place to live and not knowing the city or the real estate market, we asked for a referral from a colleague who also recently relocated here. They recommend Patti Proctor from Maxwell Devonshire Realty.
Patti quickly arranged a meeting at our convenience to discuss our home preferences, life style expectations, whether to rent or buy, and home wish list. That evening we received an email with a detailed list of homes for us to review. She cleared her schedule and dedicated the next few days to chauffeuring us around the city, while educating us on the nuances of each prospective neighborhood we explored. We viewed quite a few homes in the short period of time and Patti made us feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the entire experience. We purchased a home and it closed on the night before we had to return home. Patti and her team guided us, via long distance, through the purchase process for Alberta quickly and efficiently, helped to arrange a home inspection, and made themselves available to questions and requests from our legal and financial agents.
Patti possesses a vast wealth of knowledge relating to local residential architectural history, home construction, city bylaws and community culture; to name a few. She and her team were always welcoming and helpful. We would be pleased to recommend her and her team to anyone considering buying or selling a home in the area.
