Empire Park: Commerce and Community in Equal Measure

Empire Park is a lovely neighbourhood in the southwest area of Edmonton. The community is located near the university and also has easy access to shopping at Southgate Mall. The area has many rental apartments, making it popular amongst university students, and with the addition of LRT service, getting around the neighbourhood will be easier than ever.

Edmonton neighbourhoods are unique for their diversity of populace and distinctive amenities. One perfect example of this lies in Empire Park, where people enjoy some of the region's best shopping and rentals, yet property owners also manage to find places of their own.

More about Empire Park Real Estate

Malls and Shops Galore

Empire Park is home to Southgate Centre, whose 165 retailers make this a prime destination for visitors from all over the city. Fortunately for locals who don't feel like navigating crowds, the neighbourhood's eastern border along Calgary Trail is also lined with a range of stores.

A Community That Sticks Together

With so much space dedicated to retail zoning, it's easy to see why Empire Park might strike some as a bustling nexus of activity. In reality, however, the majority of the area is residential, and although rented apartments make up more than one-third of the residences, the central region hides a pocket of streets edged by stately, mature trees, duplexes, townhouses and single-family homes. Most of the properties here were built in the 60s and 70s, so they offer fine opportunities to invest in something more established.

The Empire Park Community League, which dates back to 1968, makes life here a bit more fun with perks like free swimming, discounts, movie events and other happenings. Since the region is served by two schools and an LRT station, it's just as easy to learn in one's proverbial backyard as it is to seek enrichment at the University of Alberta and the many other cultural institutions in Edmonton.
