The Edmonton Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) started 2017 off strong. Reported unit sales for all residential listings increased by 5.9% year-over-year (y/y).

When compared to the same time last year, January condo prices increased 8.7% to $246,727, while single family detached homes remained stable at $416,859.

“2017 has started strong, with an increase in year over year unit sales and prices remaining,” says James Mabey, REALTORS® Association of Edmonton Chair. “While it is still early in the year, the rise in sales suggests that consumer confidence in the housing market is on the rise.”

The prices of residential homes in the Edmonton Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) have remained resilient throughout the economic downturn that defined much of 2016.

The average sale price of condominiums and single family detached homes decreased only slightly relative to 2015. When it comes to total residential units reported sold, 2015 outperformed 2016 with 17,325 units sold in 2015 and 16,170 units sold in 2016.

James Mabey, REALTORS® Association of Edmonton Chair suggests that “2016 was a steady year for real estate in Edmonton and many of the surrounding communities. The ongoing economic instability certainly affected unit sales and inventory, but sale prices have continued to hold.”
